volunteer skills

Voluntary groups use volunteers to help deliver services to their clients. In fact many voluntary groups are totally reliant on volunteers as they have no paid staff at all.

People often describe themselves as ‘just a volunteer’, but volunteers are a crucial part of the voluntary sector and many voluntary groups wouldn’t be able to continue without such valuable support.

Why people volunteer

Those reasons might be to have fun, socialise, gain work experience and new skills, work with a certain client group, or simply try something new!

It is important to remember that volunteers are likely to have their own reasons for wanting to volunteer. It is worth finding out what these reasons are, to ensure they get what they want out of their volunteering role.

Volunteering usually gives people self-confidence, self-esteem or a sense of doing something positive to help their local community.
