The scheme is open to households, businesses and community organisations that use oil to heat their homes and premises.

Cheaper Heating Oil For Lincolnshire

The Community Oil Buying Schemes was launched in January 2012 with the aim of reducing the cost to members of heating their homes and businesses. Since then we have ordered over 2,000,000 litres of oil, saving on average 3p per litre on the price of oil; equating to a saving of around £15 for a 500 litres order and £30 for 1000 litres. All the saving has been passed on to our members. The amount we save depends on market forces at the time and supply and demand.

The scheme is FREE to join with no annual membership fee.  All members have the opportunity to order oil once a month. The minimum order amount is 500 litres and all our members pay the same price for their oil regardless of how much they order; the more members we have, the more we hope to save so please tell your friends, family and neighbours about the scheme.

How does the scheme work?

  • To join the scheme you will first need to register on the website and create a password. You will be asked for your name, address, phone number and email. You will also need to provide details about the location of your property and your tank.
  • When you want to place an order log in to your account and select ‘Order Heating Oil’. Before you are able to place your first order you will need to register a debit or credit card (there is no additional charge for using a credit card), or you can choose to set up a direct debit.
  • Once all orders have been received and the buying window has closed, we will negotiate and agree a price for the oil on your behalf. You will be notified by email by 5pm the day after the deadline, so look out for it! Payment will be made using your chosen method 24 hours after you receive the notification, giving you time to change your mind.
  • Once payment has been made we will let you know who the winning supplier is and you will receive your order within 10 working days of the order being placed with the supplier. So plan ahead and make sure you don’t run short of oil.

IMPORTANT: Implementation of a service charge

We deliver the Community Oil Buying Scheme in association with eSmartMetrics (trading as Olive). As a registered charity we believe that no one should be disadvantaged because they live in a rural area. The oil buying scheme is just one aspect of the work we do to support rural communities in Lincolnshire.

There are a number of costs associated with running the scheme and to cover these we add a small levy to our monthly oil price. Unfortunately this has not been enough to cover the costs and the scheme has been operating at a loss.

In recent months the cost of processing payments for oil by direct debit and debit card have been increasing, due in part to the abolition of the credit card charge.

From August 2020 we will be introducing a service charge of £2.99 (including VAT) to each order. Two thirds of this will be going to Olive to cover the rising costs of processing payments, with one third being allocated to Community Lincs, part of YMCA Lincolnshire.

We appreciate that an additional cost, albeit a modest one, is probably unwelcome. However, we need to apply it to enable the scheme to continue.

If you have any questions or comments about this or any other aspect of the scheme please don’t hesitate to contact us at or give us a call on 01529 301980.
