Walesby Parish Council Litter Pick

Funding Year 2015 -16
Grant Awarded £80.00

Litter picking may not seem the best way to draw members of the community together but in Walesby the activity seem to be very successful. “This is now an annual event and is always recognised as the first village social event of the year as we all listen to each other’s stories whilst we tuck into burger and hotdogs….after we have collect the rubbish!”

As well as a small grant to purchase refreshments West Lindsey District Council supplied litter picking grabs, fluorescent jackets and rubbish sacks which they collect when filled.

Project Benefits

All approaches into the village are free from discarded litter (for a while). This benefits not only village residents but also those visiting and passing through. The group collected about 60 bags of litter plus some other larger items which were picked up by West Lindsey District Council. “The event provides an excellent opportunity for people in the village to come together to do something worthwhile and enjoy tasting refreshments as a reward for their hard work”.

Number of Volunteers Involved

35 were involved on the day donating 70 hours of time to the task.
