The Big Lottery Fund have chosen Alford Craft Market to be one of only five community groups to be filmed for ITV’s The People’s Projects Competition on ITV Calendar News. The project gets the chance to bid for £50,000 to renovate and equip the Old Bakehouse, a large building next door to the Craft Centre, as a Pottery and Glass Studio.

This means they will be able to offer classes in Ceramics, Glass Blowing, Glass Fusing and Glass Bead making in addition to the many craft classes they already run. It will be of huge benefit to everyone in the local community by bringing in people and trade into Alford and the surrounding area.

For the project to be successful depends entirely on them being one of the three out of five groups that get the most votes from the public. They will be in competition with groups from Sheffield and Hull that have a large population.  They are the little guys and need your help!

So please go online to  and cast your vote for The Bakehouse Project and see their film, which will also be shown on Thursday 3rd of March on ITV’s Calendar 6 o’clock evening news.

Voting takes place from 9am on Monday 29th February up until 12 noon on Sunday 13th March.  Anyone in the UK can vote, so please ask your friends and family if they would too.

You can keep up to date via the project’s website at or follow #peoplesprojects for updates.
